Cornwall Air Ambulance saves the life of Camelot Hotel chef

One of our chefs is whisked away in the Air Ambulance from outside the Camelot hotel, but all's well that ends well.

Camelot chef Barry Brett suffered a heart attack and was airlifted to hospital by the Cornwall Air Ambulance

Back in the summer Barry, who lives right next door to the hotel, suffered a serious heart attack. He'd been having chest pains for a while. Barry saw a doctor in the morning and was given the all-clear but that afternoon the pain got dramatically worse. The Cornwall Air Ambulance was in the air within minutes and flew Barry to Derriford hospital where he received emergency treatment. It was a close thing, and without the Air Ambulance Barry would certainly not be with us now.

Thankfully Barry has made a full recovery and is now back at work.

Camelot Diners Club makes donation to the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust

Hawkers Restaurant at the Camelot runs a Dining Club where members pay a membership fee of £10 which entitles them to 10% discount on their meals. Camelot owner and chef present cheque to Cornwall Air Ambulance TrustThe membership fees are donated entirely to charity, and given the events of the summer it seemed appropriate to make the latest donation to the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust.

Barry and Camelot owner Patrick Naylor recently presented a cheque for £500 on behalf of the Camelot Dining Club to Arthur and Christine Newton, local fund-raisers for the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust (pictured left to right). Arthur and Christine have been supporters of the Air Ambulance from its earliest days and have been active on its behalf for 24 years.

The Cornwall Air Ambulance has flown over 22,000 missions

Cornwall is a large and relatively sparsely populated county, with most people living a long drive away from a major hospital. The Air Ambulance offers a vital service and the speed with which medical support can be provided has saved many lives. Yet is entirely funded by charitable donations. Join the customers and staff of Hawkers restaurant at the Camelot and support the Air Ambulance - you can make a donation on the Air Ambulance website.
