Hescott Shoot - Pheasent Game Shooting Season
This beautiful shoot near Clovelly in North Devon offers superb sport and a welcoming atmosphere. The Camelot has a special relationship with this gem of a pheasant shoot with many of the parties staying at the hotel shooting here each year. The quality of the sport will challenge any gun, although more modest shots will have their moments too. There is hardly a flat piece of ground on the shoot and full use is made of the contours to produce pheasant shooting at its best, with bags usually around 100 birds.
On the hilltops there are glorious views to the sea but in the depths of the deep wooded valleys you will more likely be focusing on the gaps in the trees, hoping to pick out the next screamer before it soars overhead.
The usual format for the day is to "shoot through", stopping for a light lunch at about midday and finishing in good time to let the birds return to roost. This allows teams to make the most of their day's shooting before dining in style back at the hotel and celebrating the day's achievements with a wee dram.
